Moving to Chicago has meant a lot of changes since the dark and gloomy winter. One of which is a distinct and obvious change of scenery.
Every now and then I look up at the buildings when I'm downtown. Or I notice the skyline as I wait on the platform for the el. In these brief moments, I realize where I am and that I'm happy to be here. The habits, the errands, the commuting, cooking, cleaning and sleeping are the meat in the course of the everyday. But the scenery of where you live and work, and what you pass on the way to wherever it is you are going, can be surprising when you see what you are looking at.
For most of the summer, these flowers were in a garden across from where I work. I would occasionally go there to eat my lunch, but it finally took a friend coming to visit for me to snap some photos of this scene I appreciated so much for a mid-day escape. Summer always slips away just as I'm ready for it.
In Chicago, it's starting to look and smell like fall. So for me, what better time than this to start paying attention?

Hey, I sent you a text the other night after Beirut. Did you get it? Did you enjoy the show? We'll have to hit up the next one together, do you have any ideas for upcoming shows?
